Truth Train

“You are a force to be reckoned with.”

These incredible, sweet, encouraging words were recently written on my Facebook page. While the amount of support I receive on a daily basis is much of what motivates and fuels me, these words also hit me like a ton of bricks.

“You are a force to be reckoned with.”

According to my handy search engine, this means you are someone who is strong and cannot be ignored. As much as any human being, I would love to take credit for my role here in Texas and for the achievements we have made in protecting and advancing informed consent, medical privacy, and vaccine choice. However, the revelation this moment brought on seems quite pivotal to me:

THE TRUTH IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH.

THE TRUTH. That sometimes harsh reality we ignore. We fight it. We turn away from it because it’s uncomfortable. We run from it. But real truth does not escape, no matter what. It always comes back. You can’t avoid it. Which can lead to a type of fight or flight response when it backs you in to a corner.
I know because I have been-there-done-that far too many times to count.

Some of the most profound words ever spoken to me were in a moment where I was confronted with the truth. “Jackie, I love you too much not to tell you the truth.” Sounds sweet right? But at the time, those words only angered me. They sent me into my downward spiral of fight or flight.

Why do I share these very personal details of my life with you?

Because this is precisely what we see in the opposition. When confronted with the truth, their desperation has reached an all-time low. They are frantically scrambling, calling us names, attacking our character, attacking our movement, and attempting to control the message of who they want us to be, but not who we are.

Part of me becomes angry and part of me becomes sad, but then I look back on those time in my life when I had to face the truth. I look back on MY journey as a mother who vaccinated. Vaccinated enthusiastically, I might add. I look back on how confronting everything I thought I knew and comparing it to what was right was devastating. What did I do? I ran. I tried to hide. I tried to ignore, and worse, I attacked the truth because it hurt too much to accept it.

I look at my experience, and I don’t ask WHY the opposition is melting down, I question HOW BAD IT’S GOINT TO GET before they accept it.

You’ve probably heard it a thousand times, but it seems fitting to reiterate here.
All truth passes through three stages:
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Thankfully, here in Texas, our movement is well-received and welcomed by many for who we are. But for a handful who violently oppose us, my hope and my prayer are that they will lay down their arms and come to the table with open hearts and minds. Understanding that at our core, we are moms and dads, citizens, and professionals from all walks of life, who share one common goal: to protect our rights to direct our medical care as we see fit.

It’s simple.

There is no agenda at Texans for Vaccine Choice to restrict access to vaccines. There is no plan to dismantle the vaccine program. But friends I am here to tell you, it’s going to get worse before it gets better. That’s a promise.

Like many of you who have been freed by the truth, we know the only solution is to just keep on keeping on. One day, one hour, one minute… ONE conversation at a time.

Stay focused, stay prayerful, stay joyful, and most of all, stay focused on the truth.

With deepest of gratitude and pride for you and your role in this movement,
Jackie
